She’s Got That Vibe

Real bride Rawan wore a pearl hair vine with flower details across her natural long locks, i loved how she stayed true to her style, she looked just as pretty and laid back as she did the first time i met her.

Here are a few pictures from  her wedding day in Dubai

Q:What is your wedding philosophy?

It is through my passion that I design weddings, customizing every event with our bride’s needs and wishes at heart. We transform spaces from visions to reality

Q:How often do you reflect your personal taste when designing a wedding?

I reflect my style and personal taste in every wedding I plan, it is what my clients are interested in and seeking. We work great together because we appreciate the same visions.

Q:Do you remember the details of the first wedding you planned?

I do remember the details of the first wedding, it was my first chance to truly reveal a unique style of work and planning , introducing a completely different concept therefore I wouldn’t change a thing about it. It was a perfect wedding then and now.

Q:Where do you go for inspiration to bring something new to every wedding?

My inspiration comes from my everyday life. My imagination is inspired by nature, architectural designs and travels.

Q:How do you approach a bride who has a completely different style than yours?

Because I do not have a specific style for weddings; I start with what the bride is imagining and hoping for then we add a Paul Nasr twist here and there

Q:Please list these factors in order of importance when planning a wedding and why; Budget/Creativity/Execution

In the field of wedding planning, the budget and execution are very much correlated, while creativity is a factor that plays out on its own. We plan every wedding with the budget given to us at hand, however i would place a lot of weight on creativity

Q: If you can plan any celebrity’s wedding whose would it be and why?

I would love to be given the chance to plan singer Adele’s wedding. I admire how she rose to fame at such a young age because of her great talent, I enjoy her charismatic presence and refreshingly elegant style

Q:If you can be a member of a popular music band,it would be . . .

Guns N’ Roses so that I get to play with the legendary Slash! His performances take you on a trip out of this world, i just love his passion and appreciation for music

xoxo Raquel

Naeem Khan {Fall 2016}

Oh Naeem! You left me breathless over the entire collection. Was it the embroidered organza cape, the floral sheer sleeves or the OTT pearl embellishments? Maybe it was the fringe skirt and the tiered sparkled number? Take a look at the runway gallery via The Lane then swoon ❤

Bridal Maven {Joelle Hassoun Weddings}

If “Planning a wedding is like running a company then you’re the CEO of Love” Well we had the pleasure to interview love CEO, Joelle Hassoun, wedding planner pioneer since 1997. Read more about what inspires her and view a gallery of her reputable events from around the region

joelle hassounQ:Describe the exact moment when you said to yourself “I want to plan weddings”

I dipped my toes in the wedding planning business while still in college, at the time i dreamt of creating my own wedding concepts and adding personal touches here and there so as soon as i graduated i took it on to start my own planning and coordinating agency. I just couldn’t see myself doing anything else

Q:What is your wedding philosophy?

Make it REMARKABLE! I produce each wedding as if it was my own, the bride and I become one

Q:How often do you reflect your personal taste when designing a wedding?

After establishing the couple’s mood board, incorporating their style and wishes, I add my personal touch by injecting some trendy ideas making it a seamless concept from start to finish.

Q:Do you remember the details of the first wedding you planned? What would you change about it?

I can never forget any of the weddings I’ve planned especially the first one. And although i didn’t have the experience and knowledge of the industry back then, it remains a lovely memory which i want unchanged

Q:Where do you go for inspiration to bring something new to every wedding?

I am a huge fan of Preston Bailey,  he is an artist and his portfolio alone is inspirational, i visit his work looking for new trends and out of the box ideas. I also follow Grace Ormonde’s Wedding Style magazine and blog for more bridal inspiration

Q:How do you approach a bride who has a completely different style than yours?

Every bride visualizes and imagines the big day in her own unique way. Over the years, I learnt how to bring  my expertise and style together with their dream weddings

Q:Where is your dream location to plan a wedding? And if you can have the same breakfast everyday for the next 5 years, what would it be?

A Miami Beach wedding! Mmmm i’ll have to chose the Lebanese “Mankoushi”

Bridal Maven {Design By Louma}

Because an invite is the first experience guests have with your wedding and personal style then it’s no surprise why bringing on the experts is a major plus! We interview dubai-based Louma behind Design by Louma about her services, brides and internationally featured work

Q: Describe the exact moment when you said to yourself “I want to design celebrations stationery”

It was January 2013 while i was expecting my first baby, I took my love for print and combined it with my experience in design to set up Design by Louma. I wanted to give Arab brides more, I thought I would inject a little spark in the wedding stationery industry with my own take by combining modern designs with beautiful craftsmanship, my work would be inspired by 8 years in the design & advertising industry

Q: What is your design philosophy?

I am passionate about bringing a fresh approach to the traditional and treat the invitation as a piece of design rather than a piece of protocol that needs to follow specific colors, calligraphy font & format.

Q: How often do you reflect your personal taste when designing?

Most of the time it does! I work with a team of designers, calligraphers and illustrators and all the work  is art directed and supervised by myself. I like to see each wedding invitation as a personal expression of my own taste, designs that are appreciated and loved by my clients

Q: Do you remember the details of the first wedding invite you designed? Given the chance, would you change anything about it?

The very first invitation I designed was for my sister’s wedding back in 2009. It was a destination wedding in both Colombia & Lebanon. The idea was a traveling pocket with the invitation in the shape of an airline ticket along with a dual passport design about the couple.I wouldn’t change a thing, the concept was unique and a proud highlight in my career

Q: Where do you go for inspiration to bring something new to every wedding?

Fashion magazines, florist shops, industrial food packaging and textile making like wall paper design, furniture fabric design…. Recently I go to wedding cakes for inspiration as they ooze of opulent details.

Q: How do you approach a bride who has a completely different style than yours?

First of all I would try to understand why I was approached, she must have seen something in my portfolio that tickled her heart. I consult her on the latest trends and present our recommendations, an expert service that not just executional so in most cases a mutual ground is reached and we take it from there. We also enjoy working with creative brides! They are often the ones setting new trends

Q: What is the main difference between designing in Arabic versus English?

To start off, the format is “right to left” for reading and unfolding of the invitation. English typefaces are widely available and in different styles, as for Arabic typefaces there is little variety compared to English but that also offers a creative challenge to our calligraphy team, for example creating custom bride & groom’s names in Arabic

Q: If you can design an event invite/stationary for one major celebrity event which one and why?

Definitely a celebrity who has a fun personality like Eva Longoria who recently got engaged in the Dubai desert, and although Lebanese film director Nadine Labaki is already married, maybe I’ll get the chance to design the invitation to her 10 year vow renewal?

Q: If you can use only one color to design a weddin invite which would it be?

White only, with subtle effects such as blind embossing & spot UV varnish, you can come up with a timeless piece of invitation with white.
